The capability-adjusted life years Sweden (CALY-SWE) project develops a new measure for quality of life, based on the capability approach Nobel price winner Amartya Sen.
Capabilities are the opportunities and possibilities for individuals, so that they can shape their lives in a way that they value and lead a flourishing life.
CALY-SWE is a Swedish-based implementation of the capability approach for economic evaluations. The primary use is in public health and social welfare to measure quality of life consequences.
CALYs are developed by a network of Swedish researchers and the project is located at Umeå university.
